family counseling

Anxiety, depression, self-doubt, grief, are normal parts of life we all experience at one time or another.  When these experiences become overwhelming or don’t go away we can use some help from a trained professional to help children and families deal with these and other issues in life.  A counselor will assess the presenting situation and work with all involved to develop an approach to dealing with these concerns we call a treatment plan.  This plan provides goals and a direction for a positive outcome. Common areas of treatment include but are not limited to;

Anxiety, fear of new experiences, fear of public places, ongoing sense of unease

Depression, Low sad mood, sleep disturbance, suicidal thoughts, anger.

Adjustment to change, divorce, move, abandonment by parent etc.

Trauma, Very disturbing events causing increased fear, possibly nightmares, avoiding reminders of the event or events.

Negative self-concept, global negative statements “I’m worthless, I’m stupid, I can’t ever do anything right.”

ADHD-Difficulty concentrating, paying attention.  Frequently getting in trouble in school for getting out of their seat, hyperactivity, struggle with impulse control.

Grief, Significant loss of a loved one or pet.

Oppositional behavior, struggles with authority figures, frequent problems in school, home, or community.
